Embroidery has become a hobby for most of us nowadays. Some do it just for hobby while some do it to earn extra income. Yes, you can sell some of your embroidery masterpieces. But, in order to create marketable embroidered products, you should know what embroidery designs most people would consider buying.

Now, there are lots of ways for you to find great embroidery designs which you could use when creating your embroidery. But, there are only 2 kinds of place where you can find them.

• Traditional. Yes, the department stores, those gift shops, and the prints. These are the places where you can find designs for your next embroidery project. You can go to the malls and your favorite gift shop to look for new patterns. They usually offer exclusive embroidery patterns and designs along with embroidery supplies. If you can’t find any, you can always get the new issues of your favorite embroidery magazine

• Conventional. The good news is that when you can’t find any design from the shops and magazines, you can always go online. There are many embroidery dedicated websites where you can find new embroidery designs. Also available on the Internet are software which let you create your own designs in just a few easy steps.id

So, you know now where to head straight when you think old patterns and designs aren’t giving you the satisfaction anymore. But, wait a minute. Don’t just grab the first design that caught your eye. If you are planning to sell your embroidered products, you must choose the design carefully.

Here are the things to consider when choosing embroidery design;

• Type– Be sure to decide what type of embroidery you are using. This way, you can decide whether the design is suitable to your project or not.

• Style – Consider the style of embroidery you want to use. Like, if you are using Elizabethan style of embroidery, you have to consider whether the design suits the materials used in this kind of style.

• Hand-stitched or machine embroidered? Some embroidery designs will only look good when done using sewing machines while some are great for handworks. So you have to make sure that the design you are choosing will suit your preferred way of embroidering.

The Last Thing to Consider

The cost of the embroidery designs you are choosing is also a big factor that you need to consider before finally grabbing those patterns. Let’s face it; not all embroidery designs are free. And sometimes, the most fabulous and great designs that you love are too pricey. But, worry not. There are still great designs out there that are almost free for you to grab.

The internet is actually where you can find them; mostly, on forums and embroidery online community where members share their designs to one another. There you can find some of the rarest designs; most are original creations of members. You can also ask tips from other members; tips such as where to get free but fabulous designs, where to get cheap but quality supplies, etc. You can also ask for advice regarding a project you are doing.

Having great and very marketable embroidery products rely not only on the quality of the work and how dainty are the pieces. It all comes down to the embroidery designs that you use. After all, it wouldn’t be any dainty without an ingenious embroidery design.

Where to Find Free Embroidery Patterns

Embroidery is truly a very satisfying hobby. Because this is primarily an art, creativity of the one who does embroidery is even harnessed more and thus he/she is given a greater avenue of expression. Aside from this, seeing the actual product or the final output of the design simply gives invaluable feelings. And just like other forms of arts, embroidery must also follow certain disciplines and skill in order to attain a desirable output.

Skill is often associated with constant correct practice and perseverance. In order for the skill in stitching to be developed, it must be shaped using mediums and for the case of embroidery, patterns are effective tools. And you’d be glad that free embroidery patterns can be easily acquired these days.

Patterns are design guides that are used to make the embroidery perfect. The final output of the embroidery is dependent on the design. There are designs that are simple and bare and there are also those that are complete with varying colors, depth, and complicated thread mixes. The question now is where to find embroidery patterns?

Embroidery patterns are usually for sale. They can be acquired at any hobby store where you can also find other equipments for embroidery. Design patterns are not actually that expensive as compared to other embroidery essentials, but purchasing one for your project is simply not practical.

It is because there are so many places where you can find embroidery patterns that are free of charge and with wide array of designs to choose from. Here are some of the many places where you can find free embroidery patterns:

1.) Embroidery Books – Today, there are so many books about stitching and embroidery that clips sample patterns. They come free when you buy the book. Though you need to invest in buying the book, the fact that it can help enhance your skills in embroidery is simply an advantage. The patterns clipped in these books are an absolute give away.

2.) Internet – The place where you can find almost all of the things that you are looking is absolutely in the World Wide Web. Who can imagine that this spider can really give you free embroidery patterns? But believe it or not, the internet can. If you do Google or Yahoo or any search engine that you know and you are comfortable using, just enter a keyword and in a snap, you have what you are looking for.

All you have to do is choose among the sites that can offer you the best deal. Be aware though of the sites that are pure spammers or asks you to download design. These sites might be a threat to your PC. They might contain bugs.

3.)Workshop Kits – Joining workshops and seminars on embroidery will not just give you new ideas and enhance your skills but also give you hundreds of free embroidery patterns. Just like books, you only need to pay for a registration and then you get several patterns as souvenirs or giveaway kits. But, the money is well worth it. After all, workshops are very good avenue to practice and you will surely learn something.

Embroidery must not give you strain. So whenever you are looking for free embroidery patterns, extend your searches and you will surely find one. You may also want to try your own design pattern by sketching and having it printed. That way, you are not just having it free, you are making it personalized.

If you are thinking about learning how to quilt, or are a beginner and haven't made your first quilt yet, you might be wondering how long it will take you to make your first quilt. If you're afraid that it will take you months, or even years to make a quilt, you will be happy to learn that it isn't the case. Depending on the quilt you choose to make, you can have your first quilt done in less than a week, and may even make an entire quilt in a weekend.

There are many things that will help decide how long your quilt will take you to make. One thing is the amount of time you can devote to it. If you only have a few minutes, you might be better off just waiting until another time, as by the time you take everything out, get it all set up, and start quilting, you will have to stop to put everything away since you've run out of time. If on the other hand, you can set aside a few hours, you will be more likely to get more of the quilt done, and then you will want to devote more time to getting it finished.

Another thing that will help make your quilt take less time is if you make a smaller quilt. At least until you get the hang of things, the first quilt (and probably first few quilts) for a beginning quilter should be something small. Maybe something like a baby blanket, or a lap quilt. This way you will have experience in making the whole quilt an will get better at it and in turn be quicker with it. Also, by choosing a small quilt, you will see your results sooner, and will be more likely to want to continue making quilts.

If you keep your materials together and organized, you will also find that you will be able to finish your quilts faster, since you won't have to spend time just getting things together each time you want to work on your quilt. If you know exactly where everything is, you will be able to pick up where you left off, and get right back to being productive and getting your quilt done.

If you are a beginner to quilting, then one of the hardest parts is finding the right materials and supplies to really learn, especially if you are on a budget. You can find some great deals on quilting supplies at Ellens Sewing Center.

If you are a beginner quilter and are worried that you won't be able to finish your quilt, or that it will take too long to make the quilt, then just follow some of the above tips as well as any others that will help you quilt faster, and you will have your first quilt finished before you know it!

Sometimes you need a custom machine embroidery design for a special project you are working on. Usually custom embroidery is often seen as just adding a piece of cloth or design to a shirt or other material. However, custom embroidery is being used more and more each day by businesses to market their company logo or to put their design onto employee shirts, jackets and more.

Custom machine embroidery designs can easily be accomplished at home to give your own clothing or materials their own special touch. Here are some simple tips to help you create your own custom machine embroidery designs.

Creating the Custom Machine Embroidery Logo

Once you have your logo or design in mind, you need to input it into a digital format that your embroidery machine can understand. While there are many different machines and formats, be sure to check with your manufacturer of the machine you are using to determine the best digital format.

So, the first step after your design is complete is to digitize your design. The digitizing process is a simple one. What it allows is for your embroidery machine to understand where the stitches are going to go and how to complete the pattern.

Having the Correct Custom Machine Embroidery Equipment

Once you have digitized your logo, you should already have a modern and properly equipped embroidery machine that is capable of completing the task. Older and cheaper embroidery machines can cause lots of problems with loose stitches and snags.

Do You Need The Custom Embroidery Expert

Sometimes the branding of your business and the placement of your business logo through custom embroidery is a marketing tactic that requires a careful hand and expertise. Custom embroidery machines and the digitizing effort can only take the logo design so far. If the custom embroidery machine is run by an inexperienced embroider the product will be of far less quality.

Sometimes the old saying of you get what you pay for is very true in this aspect. If you are going to use the custom machine embroidery design on your own clothing, it might not be worth hiring a custom embroidery expert for it.

How Expensive is Custom Embroidery?

The cost of having your business logo embroidered onto various clothing pieces will vary from custom embroidery shop to shop. The biggest factor into the cost of custom embroidery work is how intricate is the design. If the logo or design is rather simple with one or two colors, the cost will be less than that design which uses multiple colors and lots of detail.

The size of the logo will also play into the final cost of the product. Many businesses choose to order bulk quantities of the custom embroidered logos in order to cut down cost and provide a streamlined look to their business.

What Are The Uses of Custom Embroidery Logos

While the normal use of clothing with logo designs are as work shirts and work clothing for employees, many businesses are taking to the streets in order to boost their business brand recognition. Giving away custom embroidery shirts is a marketing tactic with tangible results.

Custom machine embroidery designs have moved far beyond the living room of your grandmother. Today, massive machines digitize the logos and words and the custom embroidery appears on various materials in minutes rather than days.

The internet is a great place to find machine embroidery designs for downloading and use on your embroidery machine. There are literally thousands of sites to search and be able to find the perfect embroidery design that you can use. While there are several factors that go into finding the best design, do you really know what you are downloading?

When you download anything from the internet, you could possibly be giving someone access to your computer. While most sites are legitimate and won't give you any problems, there are some sites that will take advantage of your computer if you download something from them.

So, what can you do to increase your security on your computer when you download embroidery machine designs?

One of the best ways to increase your computers security is to have an anti-virus program that is up to date. Just having the anti-virus software installed isn't enough however, and you should schedule it to run at certain times. Scheduling a full system scan of your computer at least once a week is a good idea and can help save your computer from being attacked and taken over by a nasty virus.

Another great tip is to backup any important files that you have. Some files are designed to wipe out your computer instead of just taking it over or causing problems. Backing up those important files onto a CD or external hard drive is a great way to ensure that you have a copy of important files.

When you download files, do you download them into one central location? I have created a "downloads" folder on my desktop and use that to download all files into that one location. This is vital because I can then scan the folder, and files, with my anti-virus and anti-spyware software before opening the file. This has saved me several times from the headaches of having to reformat my computer.

Having anti-spyware software is another good idea. Spyware can be more of a problem these days, moreso than viruses. Spyware can wreak havoc on your computer and cause lots of different problems, usually with your web browser not working right, or computer locking up.

There have also been some reports of viruses causing problems with digital machine embroidery software. Sometimes they can attack the program and when you try to create a design, you will find that you can't get it to stitch correctly. You better check and make sure that there isn't a virus or other issue with the file.

If you are using Internet Explorer for your web browser, I won't twist your arm to change to another browser, but let me tell you about my experience with it. When I was using IE exclusively, I was constantly fighting with spyware and viruses. Internet Explorer is notorius for having lousy safety and security settings by default. Another big problem with Internet Explorer is that it is heavily integrated into the Windows operating system. This means that it is more easily attacked from internet activity, and can cause your computer to crash more readily.

I downloaded the Firefox browser and haven't had any problems since. Firefox is secure, not integrated with Windows, has tons of "plugins" that can provide lots of additional functionality for your use. Once you download Firefox, it will even copy your "Favorites" over in one step!

<script type="text/javascript"

I hope you found some of these safety and security tips helpful for your machine embroidery design software and computer systems. I will try to write more about this as I have time, so check back soon!

Digital Embroidery Machines used to be so expensive that not everyone could afford having a digital embroidery machine. It used to be that without a digital embroidery machine, the average person could not replicate the complicated stitching that a computerized machine could accomplish. So, now it is almost impossible to distinguish between computerized embroidery machines and an expert in embroidery. The large scale embroidery machines in larger industries are now available in a smaller scale to the average person interested in embroidery.

With the creation of computerized embroidery machines, it has made it possible for domestic embroidery machines to embroider complicated patterns at very low costs. Unlike older embroidery machines that used specialized cards or discs to create embroidery patterns, today’s embroidery machines come pre-loaded with embroidery patterns. Embroidery machines like Brother’s PR-600II come equipped with a USB port and can be linked to a computer; basically any image file can be translated into embroidery.

Operating computerized embroidery machines is very simple, all users have to do is install the software for the embroidery machine and a user can then create custom monograms, patterns and designs via the software. The software automatically translates the user’s inputs to machine language for the embroidery machine, and a user can actually view the final output on screen without having to use the embroidery machine at all. In addition, advanced embroidery machines have multiple needles, so they can weave more intricate designs and patterns at much faster speeds. In fact, it is not uncommon for an embroidery machine to have a speed of nearly 1000 SPM (Stitches per minute).

Not all users require computer generated embroidery. To make sure that digital embroidery machines are accessible to the masses, cheaper embroidery machines have a small computer on board, the embroidery machine comes equipped with a variety of patterns and designs, and a user can simply choose from the list of patterns using the display screen on the embroidery machine.

The best part is, if users want to expand the existing patterns their machine has to offer, he/she can simply buy a memory card with more patterns on it and insert the memory card into the machine. In essence a user can actually expand the capabilities of the embroidery machine without having to upgrade the model. However for users looking for complex designs and custom embroidery, advanced embroidery machines like Brother’s Duetta™ 4500D are the ideal option. Irrespective of the level of embroidery, the smartest choice is buying a digital embroidery machine that offers domestic users both machine embroidery and flexibility

What is applique? How do you create beautiful applique designs? Which applique pattern is best and how do you stitch it?

These are all questions that any beginner to applique will be asking, and we hope to explain some basics here in this article.

The embroidery term "Applique" comes from the french word "appliquer", which means to "put on". In applique, one layer of fabric is placed over another layer of fabric. This smaller piece of fabric is then sewn in place. You have probably seen most applique designs in quilts. Using applique in quilting is a popular method to make quilts. Applique opens a whole new design world to the quilter allowing for many more possibilities than just piecing alone.

There are many ways of quilting with applique pieces, some are harder than others. Each depends on your experience level, equipment you have and some require a good deal of patience as well!

Hand applique patterns can be accomplished with methods such as hand basting, using freezer paper and even wash away stabilizers.

Hand basting appliques use a cardboard template, and you trace the applique design to the right side of the fabric. If you need to, stabilize the design pieces by stay-stitching, either by hand or by machine, just outside the drawn line using a very small stitch. Trim approximately 1/8" away from the marked line. Very carefully, clip the fabric almost to the line on curves and on inside points. Turn the raw edge to the underside of the design piece on the marked line and carefully finger press. With the right side of the fabric facing, hand baste the raw edge in place close to the edge and press lightly. After attaching the design piece to the background, remove the hand basting thread.

Using wash away stabilizer material, begin by tracing the design pieces. Place stabilizer with traced design on the right side of the design fabric. Sew on the marked line by hand or by machine using as small stitch. Trim around the attached stabilizer fabric designs leaving a 1/8" to 1/4" seam allowance. Carefully clip the seam allowances almost up to the sewn line on inner points and curves. Make a small slit in the stabilizer and turn the fabric design and stabilizer right side out. Use a point turner or other blunt instrument to help push all the points and curves into shape. Press lightly on the fabric side with a dry iron. After completing the applique washing in cool water will remove the stablilzer.

The best needles for applique designs and patterns are to use are designed for applique. Remember, most of your patterns when you are making them will be reversed. Take your time and be patient with your applique patterns.

Computerized Embroidery Machine Designs are designs that are created exclusively for embroidery machines that can use a floppy disk, CD or embroidery design card. The embroidery machine that uses these items, though a little more expensive than conventional embroidery machines, are most convenient for hobbyists and professionals alike. These computerized embroidery machine units are capable of automatically creating designs from pre-made patterns.

They can also be connected to a computer to create custom designs. The average Computerized Embroidery Machine costs around 500-600 dollars, along with the digitizing software program. Additional embroidery patterns can be bought from manufacturers, and other companies dealing with these kinds of embroidery accessories. However, many people prefer to create their own patterns by attaching the machine to a computer loaded with digitizing programs capable of resizing, editing and creating patterns.

Embroidery machine software programs can be divided into Commercial software– for custom designs, Machine-specific software – That can be downloaded for personal use, Independent-vendor software - An add-on for converting formats, Independent-designers software – which requires brand-specific hardware and software.

Before you purchase a machine embroidery system, you really need to look around and learn about the computerized embroidery machine designs that are available for it. What type of embroidery design software will it need? Are there special embroidery design cards that it requires? These are just a couple of questions that you really need to consider before buying a computerized embroidery machine.
